Portugal fast-track and priority visa services
Official priority and urgent services (urgent residence card, seasonal-work priority, urgent Schengen lodging)
In short
The official ways to speed up Portuguese visas and permits are AIMA’s urgent residence card issuance for EUR 47.80, priority treatment with a 15-day maximum for returning seasonal workers, shorter AIMA deadlines for certified companies, and the consulate’s discretion to accept urgent Schengen applications later than 15 days before travel. Priority comes from the category, not from a premium payment.

Urgent Schengen applications
Schengen applications can be lodged up to six months before travel and normally at least 15 calendar days before. In justified individual cases of urgency the consulate may accept a later application, and in justified urgent cases it may waive the interview or grant an immediate one. Fees stay the same in urgent cases: EUR 90 for a Schengen visa (EUR 45 for ages 6–12) and EUR 110 for a national visa.
- For an urgent Schengen trip, explain the reason with evidence when requesting the appointment from the Portuguese mission responsible for you.
- Returning seasonal workers: state your previous seasonal admission in the application to receive priority.
- Employees of certified companies: ask the employer to file through the certified or Tech Visa channel.
- For a residence card, ask for the urgent issuing level when your AIMA application is approved and pay EUR 47.80.
Forms
- AIMA fee table (Portaria 307/2023, updated 26.02.2026) · Residence permit fees; 25% lower when a request is filed through a digital channel.
Standard decision times
The consulate has 30 days to decide a temporary stay visa and 60 days for a residence visa or a job-seeker visa. A Schengen short-stay application is decided within 15 calendar days of being admissible, extendable to 45 days in individual cases, and consultation with other Schengen states can add seven days. A residence visa is valid for four months and two entries, during which you complete the residence permit with AIMA in Portugal.
AIMA urgent residence card
AIMA's fee table lists two issuing levels for residence cards: normal, included in the standard fee, and urgent, for an extra EUR 47.80, with the card issued by the second working day counted from the decision approving the grant or renewal. The urgency applies to card production after approval; it does not shorten the examination of the application itself. Requests filed through a digital channel pay 25 percent less on the residence permit fees in the same table.
Legal priority for some categories
Third-country nationals admitted to Portugal for seasonal work at least once in the last five years, who respected the rules, benefit from a simplified procedure: fewer documents, priority treatment and a decision within 15 days. For intra-corporate transferees, AIMA's 90-day and 30-day deadlines for grants and renewals are halved for certified companies, and Tech Visa uses a company statement of responsibility to speed up visas for highly qualified workers. These priorities come from the category, not from a payment.
