Schengen consulates in Hong Kong received 15,954 short-stay visa applications in 2025, and issued 15,397 visas. 2.8% of applications were refused (worldwide: 14.6%). That is barely different from 2024 (2.6%). Applications rose by 20% compared with 2024 (13,345).
Most applications went to France (3,770), Italy (2,901), Germany (2,205) and Spain (1,993).
Among the states with at least 500 applications, the lowest refusal rate was Spain’s (0.4%) and the highest Austria’s (11.6%).
Bulgaria and Romania began issuing Schengen visas on 31 March 2024, so their 2024 figures cover part of the year. The numbers include every nationality applying in Hong Kong.

In fiscal year 2025 (October 2024 to September 2025) the United States issued 49,810 nonimmigrant visas to citizens of Hong Kong, the 32nd highest number of the 206 nationalities listed. Visitor visas (B1/B2) made up 89%, student visas 5% and transit and crew visas 3%. That is 19% fewer than in fiscal year 2024 (61,638).
From October 2025 to February 2026, citizens of Hong Kong received 16,401, 18% fewer than in the same months a year earlier.
For visitor visas (B1/B2) the State Department reports an adjusted refusal rate of 7.7% for citizens of Hong Kong in fiscal year 2025 (fiscal year 2024: 6.2%).
