France: visa decisions in Hong Kong
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 3,895 | 3,653 | 162 | 4.2% | 30.3% |
| 2024 | 3,912 | 3,684 | 172 | 4.5% | 18.9% |
| 2025 | 3,770 | 3,593 | 121 | 3.3% | 18.5% |
In 2025, France’s embassy and consulates in Hong Kong (Hong Kong) received 3,770 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 3,593. The refusal rate was 3.3%. That is barely different from 2024 (4.5%). Applications fell by 4% compared with 2024 (3,912).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 2.8% of the applications lodged in Hong Kong that year, from 0.4% at the consulates of Spain to 11.6% at those of Austria. France’s consulates worldwide refused 14.2%. France was the most applied-for Schengen state in Hong Kong.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Hong Kong, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
