Finland: visa decisions in Hong Kong
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 1,051 | 979 | 66 | 6.3% | 6.4% |
| 2025 | 1,624 | 1,566 | 58 | 3.6% | 7.0% |
In 2025, Finland’s embassy and consulates in Hong Kong (Hong Kong) received 1,624 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,566. 3.6% of applications were refused. In 2023 it had been 6.3%: the rate fell by 2.7 points. Applications rose by 55% compared with 2023 (1,051).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 2.8% of the applications lodged in Hong Kong that year, from 0.4% at the consulates of Spain to 11.6% at those of Austria. Finland’s consulates worldwide refused 13.4%. Finland was the 5th most applied-for Schengen state in Hong Kong.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Hong Kong, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
