Germany: visa decisions in Hong Kong
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 1,816 | 1,808 | 5 | 0.3% | 99.9% |
| 2024 | 2,344 | 2,333 | 10 | 0.4% | 99.9% |
| 2025 | 2,205 | 2,183 | 13 | 0.6% | 99.9% |
In 2025, Germany’s embassy and consulates in Hong Kong (Hong Kong) received 2,205 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 2,183. 0.6% of applications were refused. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 0.4%. Applications fell by 6% compared with 2024 (2,344).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 2.8% of the applications lodged in Hong Kong that year, from 0.4% at the consulates of Spain to 11.6% at those of Austria. Germany’s consulates worldwide refused 13.1%. Germany was the 3rd most applied-for Schengen state in Hong Kong.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Hong Kong, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
