Who needs a tourist visa

Citizens of the 52 countries in the unilateral visa-free regime can visit for up to 30 days without a visa, and other agreements give longer periods to some neighbours. Everyone else needs a visa, as the Consular Department table shows for each country and passport type. For tourism this is the category T visa.

Tour firm request

A T visa requires a request from a tour firm licensed for tourism activity in Tajikistan. Independent travellers who are citizens of states listed in the annex to the visa rules do not need such a request. The annex also lists states whose citizens can obtain certain visas under a simplified procedure, such as the United Kingdom, Uzbekistan and, for specific categories, Pakistan and India.

Documents and processing

Applications are filed through the electronic information network, at www.visa.gov.tj, and the printed form is submitted with a photo and the receipt for state duty and consular fees. The passport should not expire earlier than six months after the visa and needs two blank pages. A certificate of an HIV test is required for visas of more than three months, except for certain categories such as the investment visa. Visas are decided within 20 working days of a complete file, extendable by up to 10 working days, and fees are not refunded after a refusal.

Fees

The consular fee table lists tourist visas at USD 30 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry, for up to 60 days, and USD 30 for children under 16 regardless of validity. Applications cost USD 1 per individual to consider. An overstay increases the fee for a later visa by USD 50 for up to 5 days, USD 100 for 6 to 15 days, USD 200 for 16 to 30 days and USD 100 for each further month.

Length, extension and registration

The T visa is issued single-entry for no more than 45 calendar days; with a substantiated request including an itinerary it can be multiple-entry. Holders must leave within the period stated in the visa, because a tourist visa is not extended and cannot be replaced by another category. In return, tourist visa holders are exempt from registration with the internal affairs bodies during the visa period.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Check your passport in the Consular Department table.
  2. Arrange a tour firm request if required.
  3. Apply as an e-visa, at visa.gov.tj for a mission, or for a visa on arrival.
  4. Pay the fees and submit form, photo and passport.
  5. Travel within the visa dates; no registration is needed on a T visa.
  6. Leave before the visa ends, as it cannot be extended.
