How visas for Tajikistan work
Since 1 January 2022 Tajikistan has applied a unilateral 30-day visa-free regime for citizens of 52 countries, regardless of the purpose of the trip; bilateral agreements add other regimes, such as indefinite visa-free travel for Belarus and 90 days for Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes the full table by passport type, showing for each country whether ordinary, service and diplomatic passports need a visa and whether the e-visa or the visa on arrival is available. Everyone not covered by a visa-free regime needs a visa.
Visas can be obtained online as an e-visa at www.evisa.tj for citizens of 140 countries, at Tajik missions abroad after applying at www.visa.gov.tj, or on arrival at the Consular Bureau of Dushanbe International Airport for citizens of 140 countries. Many categories require an invitation confirmed by the Main Consular Department. Categories are lettered: T for tourism, K for business, M for employment, S for investors, O1 and O2 for study, KhS1 and KhS2 for private visits, ID for those applying for permanent residence, and TR for transit.
Foreigners register with the internal affairs bodies within 10 working days of entry unless they leave earlier, are exempt by agreement, or hold an e-visa or tourist visa. Overstaying makes later visas more expensive: the consular fee rises by USD 50 to USD 200 depending on the delay, plus USD 100 for every further month.
