Nepal e-Visa and Electronic Travel Authorisation
Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) / eVisa and mission visa
In short
Nepal's Department of Immigration lets travellers apply for the Tourist Visa before departure as an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), also called the eVisa, on the NepaliPort portal. You upload a passport scan and a photo, pay USD 30, 50 or 125 by card and receive the approved visa by e-mail. A second online channel runs through Nepalese embassies and missions.

Two online routes: DoI ETA or a Nepalese mission
The ETA is a Tourist Visa issued in advance by the Department of Immigration (DoI) itself. It covers 15, 30 or 90 days with multiple entry and is the route the Department recommends to most travellers because processing is fully online and payment is in US dollars by card. The alternative is the mission portal, where you choose a Nepalese embassy or consulate that handles the application under its own payment and collection rules. Travellers from the twelve countries excluded from the visa on arrival, such as Nigeria, Iraq and Syria, must use the mission route.
What to upload
The DoI portal asks for personal and passport details, travel dates and the purpose of the visit, together with a scanned copy of a passport valid for at least six months and a recent passport photo on a white background. Missions may request further supporting documents. Gratis applicants, such as children under 10 or SAARC citizens on their yearly free visit, still have to complete the online application but are not charged.

Payment, submission ID and approval
After filling in the form you pay USD 30, 50 or 125 by card on the portal and receive a Submission ID, which you need to track the application. The approved eVisa arrives by e-mail; the Department warns that these messages often land in spam folders. Print the visa and carry it when you fly. On the mission route, fees and the way the visa is returned (by e-mail or collection in person) depend on the embassy you chose.

Validity and conditions
An eVisa must be used within six months of the date of issue, and your permitted stay starts on the day you enter Nepal. Once issued, the visa cannot be withdrawn and the fee is not refunded. The 150-day yearly cap for tourists applies in the same way as for a visa on arrival, and extensions are requested from the Department of Immigration or the Pokhara office, also possible online on NepaliPort.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Nepal ETA the same as a visa?
Yes. The ETA is the Tourist Visa issued in advance online; it gives the same 15, 30 or 90 days with multiple entry as a visa on arrival.
I have not received my Nepal eVisa. What should I do?
Check the spam or junk folder first, then use your Submission ID on the NepaliPort tracking page.
Can I cancel my eVisa and get the money back?
No. A Nepal visa cannot be withdrawn once issued and the fee is not refunded.
When must I travel after the eVisa is issued?
Within six months of the issue date; your stay is counted from the day of entry.
