Who it is for

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists the Employment Visa as a separate category from the business visa. The business visa is meant for people appointed to or invited by a company registered in Myanmar, and its holders may carry out only the activities stated in the invitation; the Employment Visa is the category for taking up a job. Foreigners already in Myanmar on a business visa extend through the eStay system instead.

Fee and stay

The Employment Visa costs USD 50 and allows a stay of 70 days. The Ministry states that the stay can be extended according to the rules and regulations in force; it does not publish a multiple-entry version for this category, unlike the business, social and education visas.

Where to apply

Only the Tourist and Business visas can be obtained online; every other category is issued by a Myanmar embassy or consulate. The official eVisa portal has a directory of Myanmar embassies and consulates abroad: contact the mission that covers your country of residence and ask it for the current application form, document list and fee before you apply.

  1. Agree the job with your employer in Myanmar and ask which documents it will provide.
  2. Find the Myanmar embassy or consulate that covers your country of residence, using the eVisa portal directory.
  3. Submit the embassy’s form, your passport, photos and employer documents, and pay USD 50.
  4. After arrival, report your address and apply for an extension before the 70 days end.

After arrival

Some parts of Myanmar are restricted areas, and foreigners need prior permission to travel there. Accommodation must be at licensed hotels, motels and guest houses or at legally permitted premises, and the address of the stay is reported to the township immigration office.
