Who needs a business visa

The business visa is for people who are officially appointed to work for, or invited by, a company registered in Myanmar. The inviting company must be a real entity actively operating on the ground and registered in Myanmar Companies Online (MyCO), the register of the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA).

If an immigration officer suspects that the invited person has not been officially appointed, the application is rejected. A company that invites someone improperly, or a visitor who carries out activities not stated in the invitation letter, faces action under the Burma Immigration (Emergency Provisions) Act 1947.

Company documents

For the Business eVisa, the applicant uploads a letter of invitation from the registered company, a Business eVisa requisition letter, the company registration (certificate of incorporation for a local company or certificate of registration of branch office for a foreign investment company), a company extract issued by DICA within the past month and proof of a valid annual return. Samples are provided on the eVisa site.

A recommendation or invitation letter from certain registered foreign chambers is also accepted: the Thai Business Association of Myanmar, the French-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, EuroCham Myanmar, the Malaysian Business Chamber and the British Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar.

Embassy visa fees

For business visas issued by embassies and consulates, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists USD 50 for a single entry with a 70-day stay, and multiple-entry business visas at USD 200 for three months, USD 400 for six months and USD 600 for one year. Multiple-entry holders do not need to leave after 70 days, and all business visas can be extended under the rules.

Business eVisa or embassy visa

Nationals of 54 countries, including most EU states, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, India and Russia, can apply online for the Business eVisa at USD 70. It allows 70 days from arrival, is single-entry and is valid at the same four entry points as the Tourist eVisa.

Nationals of countries not on the Business eVisa list need a business visa from a Myanmar embassy or consulate. Use the embassy directory on the eVisa portal to find the mission that covers your country of residence, and ask it for the current documents and fee.

  1. Confirm that the inviting company is registered and active on MyCO and obtain the invitation and requisition letters.
  2. If your nationality is on the Business eVisa list, apply on evisa.moip.gov.mm and pay USD 70.
  3. If not, contact the Myanmar embassy or consulate that covers your country of residence and apply there.
  4. Enter Myanmar and report your residence to the township immigration office with Form C.
  5. Before the stay expires, have a company director file the eStay extension online.
  6. Pay the fee within 10 days of approval and have the stickers affixed in Yangon within 14 working days.

Obligations during the stay

The address you give in an extension application must be your actual residence, reported to the township immigration office with Form C (report of arrival). A Foreigner Registration Certificate must be attached if you hold one; otherwise it is obtained at the Foreigner Registration Section in Yangon before the stickers are affixed. Restricted areas require prior permission.

Extending the stay with eStay

Since 1 September 2025 the online eStay system (estay.moip.gov.mm) accepts extensions for all business visas: embassy-issued, on arrival and eVisa. A director of the sponsoring company listed on MyCO applies for the foreigner, with a signed extension requisition letter; companies linked to ministries add a ministry recommendation, and small and medium enterprises add a business licence and a field-inspection recommendation from State or Region officers. The latest entry visa must be a business visa, and the passport needs six months of validity.

Fees are USD 62 for a 3-month stay permit, USD 114 for 6 months and USD 217 for one year, plus USD 72 for a single or USD 217 for a multiple re-entry visa. Processing takes up to five working days; the fee is paid online within 10 days of approval and the stickers are affixed at No. 122 Pansodan Street, Yangon, within 14 working days. The foreigner must stay in Myanmar throughout. Overstay is fined USD 3 a day up to 90 days and USD 5 a day beyond, and people who have overstayed by more than 10 days cannot use eStay. Children under seven are exempt from these fees.
