Employment visas (C1 to C11) and residence permit
In short
Foreigners coming to work in Mongolia receive a C-category visa matching their sector, from C1 for construction to C11 for transport. The inviting organisation files the request with the Immigration Agency. Family members receive the corresponding dependant visa, and foreigners who stay on can obtain a residence permit, which costs MNT 120,000 in stamp duty plus MNT 15,000 for the card and USD 7.

Visa fees
Visa fees follow the Immigration Agency schedule: USD 45 for a single-entry and USD 60 for a double-entry entry visa, and USD 100 or USD 200 for multiple-entry visas valid up to six months or up to one year, each plus a USD 5 service fee. The visa permission costs MNT 2,500 per person, and urgent services or services at the border cost double stamp duty.
Employer invitation
For C visas the inviting organisation submits the request. Once the Immigration Agency grants the visa permission, the visa is issued at the Mongolian diplomatic mission or border checkpoint named in it; if the place of issue changes, the permission must be filed again. Investors and executives of companies with foreign investment use the B categories, and heads of representative offices of foreign legal entities use B3.

Residence permit

Granting a residence permit costs MNT 120,000 stamp duty plus MNT 15,000 for the residence card and a USD 7 service fee; an extension costs MNT 72,000 plus the same card and service fees.
Entry is not guaranteed
A visa does not guarantee admission to Mongolia. Foreigners who break the law on the legal status of foreign nationals and are penalised cannot extend their visa and may receive a deportation warning or be deported by the Immigration Agency.
