Who can use the B1 visa on arrival
The B1 is reserved for holders of a national, emergency or temporary passport issued by one of the 97 countries, special administrative regions and entities on the immigration authority's visa-on-arrival list. Nationals who are also on the visa-exemption list can enter without any visa for up to 30 days, but that stay cannot be extended or converted; the B1 can be extended once.
Stateless persons and travellers holding a titre de voyage, certificate of identity or laissez-passer cannot use it and must apply for a C1 visa instead.
What the visa allows
Permitted purposes are tourism, visiting family, attending meetings, incentive trips, conventions and exhibitions, and transit through Indonesia to another country. It is a single-entry visa: once you leave, the visa is used up.
You may not sell goods or services, and you may not accept payment, wages or similar compensation from a person or company in Indonesia. Anyone who needs to work, give paid talks or stay beyond 60 days should choose another visa before travelling.
Fee and payment
The state fee is IDR 500,000 for the 30-day stay, with no verification fee. The e-VOA is paid online by debit or credit card. For the paper VoA you pay at the designated bank counter inside the immigration area of the airport or seaport, receive a payment voucher and show it at the VoA counter.
Unofficial websites resell the same visa at a mark-up. Immigration only names its own portal and indonesiavoa.vfsevisa.id for the e-VOA.
e-VOA or paper visa at the border
With the e-VOA you upload your documents, pay by card and receive the visa by e-mail and in your e-Visa account within 24 hours. The e-VOA must be used within 90 days of issue. A variant lets you apply and pay online and collect the visa at the counter on arrival.
With the paper VoA you queue at the bank counter, then at the VoA counter, where a visa sticker goes into your passport and you get an electronic entry stamp. Buying the e-VOA in advance saves both queues.
- Check that your passport has at least six months of validity left and that you hold a return or onward ticket.
- Open evisa.imigrasi.go.id (or indonesiavoa.vfsevisa.id), choose the visa on arrival and enter your passport and travel details.
- Upload the passport scan and photo, then pay IDR 500,000 by card.
- Download the e-VOA from your e-mail or e-Visa account, normally within 24 hours, and travel within 90 days.
- Complete the All Indonesia declaration up to three days before your flight lands.
- At immigration show your passport, e-VOA and QR code; if you did not buy the e-VOA, pay at the bank counter and go to the VoA counter first.
- If you want to stay beyond 30 days, file the single extension online or at the local immigration office before day 30.

Before and after landing
Every passenger from abroad must also fill in the free All Indonesia declaration within the three days before arrival and keep the QR code. Visitors to Bali additionally pay the provincial foreign tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per trip, which the province asks travellers to pay online through Love Bali.
Keep track of your 30th day: overstaying is prohibited and extensions should be filed before the stay runs out.
Extending to 60 days
The B1 can be extended once, to a maximum of 60 days in total. e-VOA holders extend online through evisa.imigrasi.go.id or indonesiavoa.vfsevisa.id; holders of the paper VoA go to the immigration office nearest to where they are staying.
The 30-day visit stay permit (ITK) extension is charged IDR 500,000 under the immigration fee schedule. A further stay requires leaving and re-entering on a new visa, or switching through a bridging visa where immigration allows it.
