Who qualifies

The E33E is open to foreign nationals aged 55 or older who want to live in Indonesia. No individual or corporate sponsor is required; the immigration guarantee takes its place.

Immigration also lists an E33F one-year retiree visa, but its official page carries no details yet, so this guide covers the five-year E33E only.

Deposit and income

You commit to depositing at least USD 50,000 or equivalent in your own account at an Indonesian state-owned bank, fulfil it and report proof to the issuing immigration office within 90 days of entry, and keep the balance at that level while the permit is valid.

You also prove income or an allowance of at least USD 3,000 per month, typically a pension, and provide a three-month personal bank statement showing at least USD 2,000. The page does not restrict where the pension comes from, so a pension from any country can serve as income evidence if it reaches the USD threshold.

Fees

The five-year package costs IDR 13,000,000: visa IDR 500,000, verification IDR 2,000,000, five-year ITAS IDR 7,000,000 and five-year re-entry permit IDR 3,500,000. The page does not list a fee for a ten-year option. Fees are not refunded on refusal.

Applying and processing

Apply from your own account on evisa.imigrasi.go.id. The decision comes four working days after payment; the visa must then be used within 90 days, and the ITAS and re-entry permit are issued at the border.

The stay is counted from the entry stamp.

  1. Check that you are 55 or older and can show USD 3,000 monthly income and a USD 50,000 deposit.
  2. Gather pension statements, bank statements, CV and itinerary.
  3. Create an account on evisa.imigrasi.go.id and apply for the E33E.
  4. Pay IDR 13,000,000 with the billing code.
  5. Enter Indonesia within 90 days of approval; the ITAS is issued at the border.
  6. Open the USD 50,000 deposit at a state-owned bank and report it to the immigration office within 90 days.

Life as a retiree resident

Holders may travel in and out while the permit is valid, bring family, and enjoy tourism, shopping and visits. Work or study is possible if reported to the immigration office that issued the permit.

The stay can be extended online up to ten years in total or converted to another stay permit, and the over-60 and second-home categories appear among those allowed to convert to a permanent stay permit.
