Cambodia visa on arrival

Visa on arrival (VoA)

In short

Cambodia issues visas on arrival at its international airports and land border checkpoints, which makes it the fallback at crossings that do not accept the e-Visa. All land crossings with Thailand are currently closed. Every traveller must also complete the free e-Arrival form, and the official pages consulted do not publish the on-arrival fee.

When the visa on arrival makes sense

Cambodian missions describe the visa on arrival as one of three ways to obtain a visa, next to the e-Visa and an application through an embassy. It is mainly useful where the e-Visa cannot be used: the e-Visa FAQ advises travellers who are unsure which land border they will use to obtain a visa on arrival at checkpoints that do not support the e-Visa.

Land crossings with Vietnam such as Kaoam Samnor, Phnom Den and Trapaing Sre, and Dong Kralo on the Lao border, are open but do not accept the e-Visa for entry. Cruise passengers arriving by ship at Sihanoukville cannot use the e-Visa either.

Where it is available

According to the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Berlin, the visa on arrival remains available at all international airports and land border checkpoints. The international airports are Techo International Airport (Phnom Penh), Siem Reap Angkor International Airport and Sihanoukville International Airport.

All land border crossings between Cambodia and Thailand, including Poipet and Cham Yeam, are closed until further notice, so overland arrivals are currently possible only from Vietnam and Laos.

What to prepare

Carry a passport with more than six months of validity, which is the general entry requirement for Cambodian visas, and be ready to pay the visa fee at the counter. The on-arrival fee is not listed on the official pages consulted for this guide; the e-Visa rates (USD 30 for T, USD 35 for E) are the reference published by the Ministry. Submit the free Cambodia e-Arrival on arrival.gov.kh or in the app within 7 days before arrival to avoid filling it in at the counter.

Official sources describe the visa on arrival as available at international airports and land checkpoints without restricting it by nationality; it is one of the three ways to get a visa, next to the e-Visa and an embassy application.
