Who needs the Tourist Visa

The T visa is meant for travellers visiting Cambodia for leisure: sightseeing at Angkor, beach holidays, visiting friends. Citizens of visa-exempt countries, including Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia and Brunei, do not need it for stays within their exemption period.

Holders of diplomatic and service passports may be exempt under bilateral agreements listed by Cambodian missions. If you intend to do business, work or stay longer than about two months, choose the Ordinary Visa (E) instead, because only the E visa leads to long-stay extensions.

What you need

Your passport must have more than six months of validity at the time of entry. Online you upload a recent digital photo and the passport page and pay by card. Embassies also ask for proof of the trip: the Berlin embassy, for example, requires a signed application form, a clear scan of the passport page with the machine-readable lines visible, a return flight booking and a hotel booking.

Three ways to get it

Online: apply on evisa.gov.kh for USD 30 and receive the e-Visa by e-mail in about three business days. It is valid only at Techo, Siem Reap Angkor and Sihanoukville airports and at the Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal land crossings.

Through an embassy: Cambodian embassies now submit applications into the same electronic system and send the approved visa by e-mail; according to the Berlin embassy, a visa obtained this way is accepted at every international checkpoint, including land borders and cruise arrivals. Ask the Cambodian embassy responsible for your country about its procedure and fee.

On arrival: a visa on arrival is available at international airports and land border checkpoints.

  1. Decide on the entry point; if it accepts the e-Visa, apply online, otherwise go through the embassy or plan for a visa on arrival.
  2. For the e-Visa, fill in the form on evisa.gov.kh, upload your photo and passport page and pay USD 30.
  3. For the embassy route, ask the Cambodian embassy responsible for your country which documents and fee apply and send them as instructed.
  4. Receive the approved visa by e-mail and keep a copy for the airline and immigration.
  5. Complete the e-Arrival within 7 days before arrival.
  6. If you want to stay longer than 30 days, apply for the single extension before your stay expires.

Entry and the e-Arrival form

Validity and stay are two different periods: you can enter on any day within three months of issue, and your 30 days begin when you pass immigration. Every traveller must complete the free Cambodia e-Arrival, which combines the immigration card, health and customs declarations, within 7 days before arrival. A digital v-Pass replaces the passport stamp.

Extending a tourist stay

The T visa can be extended once, inside Cambodia, through the immigration authorities. It cannot be turned into the E-class extensions (EB, EG, ER, ES) that allow stays of six months or a year, so plan the visa category before you travel. The automatic extensions and overstay waivers granted during the pandemic ended in April 2022.

30 days from the day you enter. The visa itself must be used within three months of issue, and you can extend the stay once in Cambodia.
