How visas for Cambodia work
Most foreign visitors need a visa for Cambodia. Two ordinary categories cover almost every private trip: the Tourist Visa (T) for leisure and the Ordinary or Business Visa (E) for work, business and any stay that is meant to be extended. Both are single-entry, valid for three months from issue and allow 30 days in the country from the day of entry.
There are three ways to obtain them: online on evisa.gov.kh, the e-Visa system run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC); through a Cambodian embassy; or as a visa on arrival at international airports and land border checkpoints. Since 1 January 2025 the e-Visa costs USD 30 for type T and USD 35 for type E. From 3 October 2026 visas are issued digitally rather than as stickers, and every traveller, visa holder or not, completes the free Cambodia e-Arrival form.
Longer stays are arranged inside Cambodia. A T visa can be extended once. An E visa can be converted into an E-class extension of stay: EB for business and employment, EG for job seekers, ER for retirees and ES for students, for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months depending on the class. Citizens of visa-exempt countries, mainly ASEAN states such as Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia and Brunei, can stay without a visa for their exemption period.
Which visa do I need?
Holiday or family visit of up to 30 days, with a possible single extension: Tourist Visa (T), online for USD 30 or on arrival. Business meetings, a job offer, volunteering, study or a long retirement stay: Ordinary Visa (E), because only the E visa leads to the EB, EG, ER and ES extensions.
Choose the e-Visa if you fly into Techo (Phnom Penh), Siem Reap Angkor or Sihanoukville airport or cross at Bavet or Tropaeng Kreal. Choose a visa through an embassy or on arrival if you will use a land crossing or a cruise port that does not accept the e-Visa.

Frequently asked questions
Who needs a visa for Cambodia?
Most foreign visitors. Citizens of visa-exempt countries, mainly ASEAN states such as Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia and Brunei, do not need one within their exemption period; everyone else uses the e-Visa, an embassy or the visa on arrival.
How much does a Cambodia e-Visa cost?
USD 30 for the Tourist Visa (T) and USD 35 for the Ordinary Visa (E), the rates in force since 1 January 2025. Embassies may charge their own amounts in local currency.
Can I apply through a Cambodian embassy instead of online?
Yes. Cambodian embassies enter applications into the same electronic system and send the approved visa by e-mail; the Berlin embassy states that such a visa is accepted at every international checkpoint. Embassies set their own fees in local currency, so ask the mission responsible for your country.
Do I have to fill in the e-Arrival form if I already have a visa?
Yes. The Cambodia e-Arrival is required for every traveller, including visa holders. It is free and can be submitted on arrival.gov.kh or in the app within 7 days before arrival.
Can I enter Cambodia from Thailand by land?
Not at present. Cambodian missions report that all land border crossings between Cambodia and Thailand are closed until further notice. Crossings from Vietnam and Laos remain open.
Which visa do I need to stay in Cambodia for a year?
Enter on an Ordinary Visa (E) and apply inside Cambodia for an E-class extension of stay matching your situation: EB for work or business, ER for retirement or ES for study. The Tourist Visa can be extended only once.
