Azerbaijan transit visa
Transit visa (single or double entry)

It is issued for one or two entries, is valid for up to 30 days, allows up to 5 days in the country and costs USD 20 in the Foreign Ministry's fee table. Passengers changing planes within 24 hours without leaving the airport's transit area need no visa.

Who needs it
Only visa-required travellers who pass through Azerbaijani territory. ASAN Visa nationals can use the e-visa instead.
Conditions
The visa is issued with the route, the means of transport (air, sea, rail or road) and the journey time in mind. You must show onward travel to a third country and, where the destination requires one, its visa.
Embassy file
Embassies ask for a signed application form, the original passport with a blank page and at least three months' validity after departure from Azerbaijan, two recent colour photos, a passport copy, the itinerary with onward tickets, the destination visa where needed and a hotel booking. Holders of a non-passport travel document add their permanent resident card.

Fee and payment
The Foreign Ministry's fee table sets USD 20 for a transit visa, for one or two entries. Some missions charge a local equivalent (CHF 21 in Bern) and payment methods vary, from certified cheques to bank transfers. The fee is not refunded after a refusal.
Processing, validity and stay
Processing times are set by each mission: 10 business days at the consulate in Los Angeles, up to 10 days in Doha, up to 15 days in Bern. The visa is valid for up to 30 days and allows up to 5 days in the country, too short to trigger the 15-day address registration.
If you are held up
If an emergency stop strands you during transit, the State Migration Service can extend your stay, and in this case the rule of applying at least three working days in advance does not apply. Stay extensions are capped at 60 days.

- Obtain the visa of your final destination first if it requires one.
