Who can use the ASAN Visa
Only citizens of countries named on the official ASAN Visa country list. The list covers most of Europe, the Americas, East Asia and the Gulf, among others. Citizens of the visa-free partner countries do not need it.
The system is run by the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns travellers to use only evisa.gov.az; look-alike websites charge extra service fees.
Fees and processing
Embassies publish two service levels: standard at USD 20, decided within 3 working days, and urgent at USD 50, decided within 3 hours regardless of weekends and public holidays. Payment is made by bank card on the portal.
The ASAN Visa portal itself breaks the standard price down into a USD 20 state fee for reviewing the application and a USD 9 service fee for processing it. Cards accepted are Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay and JCB, and the card does not have to be in the applicant's name. Nothing is refunded if the e-visa is refused or turns out to contain a mistake.
Applying online
Fill in the online form with details exactly as in your passport, upload the passport data page, pay and wait for the e-visa by e-mail. Print it and carry it with your passport; check every detail before travel because errors are not corrected at the border.
- Check that your nationality is on the ASAN Visa country list.
- Open evisa.gov.az and choose the standard or urgent service.
- Enter personal and travel details exactly as in the passport and upload the data page.
- Pay by bank card and keep the application number.
- Download the e-visa from the e-mail or the portal and print it.
- Enter within the 90-day validity, leave within 30 days and register your address if staying over 15 days.
Validity and stay
The e-visa is valid for 90 days and allows one entry with up to 30 days in the country. It cannot be reused for a second trip. Your passport must remain valid at least 3 months beyond the e-visa's expiry.
A standard e-visa becomes valid at the earliest three working days after the application is submitted, while an urgent e-visa is valid from the day it is issued. An e-visa that is not used within its 90 days lapses, and a new e-visa can only be requested after you have left Azerbaijan. If you hold several e-visas, leave the country on the one you used to enter.
After arrival
Staying longer than 15 days (30 days for Kazakh citizens) means registering your address with the State Migration Service within 15 days of arrival. It is free and can be done online, by e-mail to the SMS registration desk, at a regional migration office or at an ASAN Service centre; a hotel or landlord may file it for you. If you move, register the new address within 5 working days.
Mistakes, refusals and special cases
The portal treats an e-visa as invalid if any detail differs from the passport used for travel; it cannot be corrected, and a new application and payment are needed. Dual nationals must apply with the nationality of the passport they will travel on. An unreadable scan of the passport photo page leads to refusal, and refusals follow the grounds in Article 16 of the Migration Code; the reasons are sent by e-mail and you may then apply at an Azerbaijani embassy or consulate.
Applications can be filed for one person, for a family of 2 to 10 people, or for a group of 10 to 300 people, but every traveller, including a child entered in a parent's passport, gets their own e-visa. Foreign journalists and camera crews may only apply after accreditation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the e-visa never allows paid work: that requires a work visa or a temporary residence permit with a work permit.
