Foreign investors must obtain the foreign investment authorisation, hold more than 34% of an Andorran company, sit on its board, show a registered trading business within three months and deposit EUR 50,000 with the Andorran Financial Authority. Foreign investment route
For a foreign investment, the applicant must have obtained the corresponding foreign investment authorisation to set up an Andorran company with a stake above 34%, have legally constituted the company, hold a position on its administrative body, prove within three months of applying that the company owns a registered and active business in Andorra, and deposit EUR 50,000 (non-interest-bearing) with the Andorran Financial Authority (AFA) when the immigration application is filed.
Fees
Delivery of an initial own-account residence and work authorisation costs EUR 190.96, on top of the EUR 5.73 application receipt. Renewals cost EUR 22.61. Family members who join you by reunification pay EUR 22.61 for their own authorisation.
Reserving the authorisation first (procedure J)
Qualified professionals and foreign investors start with a reservation of the authorisation. The reservation file contains the application, criminal record certificates issued less than three months earlier and legalised, a sworn statement on criminal records, passport, proof of civil status, a photo meeting the official criteria and the signature document. A qualified professional then has three months from the reservation to file the J.1 application with proof of housing, the owner's consent if you are not the tenant, the Government's authorisation to practise the profession and, where required, membership of the professional association.
A foreign investor has six months to file the J.1 application with proof of housing, the foreign investment authorisation for a company in which you hold more than 34 %, proof that you sit on its administrative body and actually manage it, and proof of the EUR 50,000 deposit with the Andorran Financial Authority. Within three months of the application you must also show that the company owns a registered, active business in Andorra. If the documents are not filed in time, the reservation lapses. The Immigration Service may ask for further documents and carry out any checks it considers necessary.

Medical check and decision
The Immigration Service of the Government of Andorra handles the file and receives the public Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 13:00, by appointment only; the general government line is +376 875 700. When the documents are presented, the Service gives you a date and time for the medical check at the Immigration Medical Service on the next working day, and you do not need to fast for it. If every requirement is met, the initial authorisation is issued the day after the medical check. Andorra has no visa of its own, and the Government states that anyone who has stayed more than 90 days in any 180-day period in the Schengen area is not in a regular situation there and cannot obtain any Andorran immigration authorisation. Leaving for a few days to a non-Schengen country does not reset the count.
Validity
The first authorisation lasts one year, renewable three times for two years; after seven years, renewals are for ten years (procedure J.2). Register with your comú within three months of approval.
