Means, housing and insurance
You must show sufficient means, under the requirements set by regulation, for yourself and anyone dependent on you or on your spouse or stable partner for the whole validity of the residence. Housing can be owned or rented, as long as it meets the minimum habitability standards; if you have started buying a home that meets them, the purchase must be completed within one year of the application. Health and disability insurance valid in Andorra must cover you and your dependants for the whole period; minors and people over 60 need health cover only. You and the family members included in the application sign a commitment to live in Andorra at least 90 days a year and to keep the insurance in force.
How the application is handled
The Immigration Service of the Government of Andorra handles the file and receives the public Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 13:00, by appointment only; the general government line is +376 875 700. When the documents are presented, the Service gives you a date and time for the medical check at the Immigration Medical Service on the next working day, and you do not need to fast for it. If every requirement is met, the initial authorisation is issued the day after the medical check.
Andorra has no visa of its own, and the Government states that anyone who has stayed more than 90 days in any 180-day period in the Schengen area is not in a regular situation there and cannot obtain any Andorran immigration authorisation. Leaving for a few days to a non-Schengen country does not reset the count.
