Malta’s embassies and consulates outside the Schengen area received 54,037 short-stay visa applications in 2025, the 21st highest number among the 28 Schengen states, and issued 33,140 visas. The refusal rate was 38.4%. That is barely different from 2024 (38.5%). Applications rose by 19% compared with 2024 (45,578).
The busiest countries were India (8,587), Turkey (8,068), the United Arab Emirates (7,079), Morocco (5,867) and Libya (5,308). Among the ten busiest, refusal rates ranged from 11.3% in the United Kingdom to 81.9% in Algeria.
