2024 1,11843865359.7% 33.1%
2025 1,9478031,14258.7% 40.3%

In 2025, Malta’s embassy and consulates in Ghana (Accra) received 1,947 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 803. 58.7% of applications were refused. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 59.7%. Applications rose by 74% compared with 2024 (1,118).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 46.5% of the applications lodged in Ghana that year, from 33.5% at the consulates of Germany to 71.9% at those of the Czech Republic. Malta’s consulates worldwide refused 38.4%. Malta was the 10th most applied-for Schengen state in Ghana.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Ghana, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
