Visa exemption

Thailand's revised visa exemption and visa-on-arrival schemes, effective 15 September 2026, list 60 countries and territories whose ordinary passport holders receive a 30-day visa exemption. Other groups get 14, 15, 30 or 90 days under bilateral agreements, and Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia receive visas on arrival. Holders of the exemption cannot work.

When you need a Tourist Visa

The Tourist Visa covers tourism and leisure, recreational training such as scuba diving, boxing, Thai massage or cooking, visits to family in Thailand of less than 60 days, medical treatment of less than 60 days, MICE events supported by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau and football trials. For stays beyond 30 days or several trips within six months, apply for a single-entry (valid three months) or multiple-entry (valid six months) Tourist Visa.

Documents in the e-Visa system

Upload the passport biodata page, a photo taken within six months, a document showing your current location, a travel booking confirmation, proof of accommodation in Thailand (bookings or an invitation from family or friends) and financial evidence of at least THB 20,000, such as bank statements for the last three months or a sponsorship letter. Family visits add the Thai family's details; treatment adds a hospital appointment letter.

On arrival and during your stay

Your permitted stay is stamped by the immigration officer on arrival. Foreigners staying in Thailand for more than 90 days must report their address to the Immigration Bureau every 90 days, except for categories with special rules such as LTR holders, who report once a year. Extensions of stay are handled by Immigration Bureau offices inside Thailand.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Check whether 30 days without a visa is enough; if not, prepare the Tourist Visa documents.
  2. Create an account on thaievisa.go.th (one account can hold up to 10 applications) and choose the country where you are currently located; the Thai embassy or consulate responsible for it will process the application.
  3. Select the visa type and purpose, fill in the form and upload the listed documents as clear scans.
  4. Pay the visa fee shown by the system; it is not refunded if the visa is refused or your details are wrong.
  5. Wait for the decision within the processing time of the mission handling your application; answer any request to correct or add documents.
  6. Print the approval e-mail and show it to the airline and Thai immigration on arrival.
