The four Hayya categories

A1 (Tourist Visa) is the general visit permit for international travellers who are not visa-exempt; a hotel reservation or a registered host is needed during the application. A2 is for residents of another GCC country, whatever their nationality, whose residence remains valid for at least six months after arrival in Qatar. A3 (Visa with ETA) is for holders of a valid Schengen, US or UK visa or residence permit, and certain nationalities that Qatar routes to this category. A4 covers people travelling together with a GCC citizen, who must travel with that sponsor.

The Ministry of Interior names Hayya as the only channel for these four permits. Visitors who are exempt do not need any of them for an ordinary visit.

Documents uploaded on Hayya

Every category asks for a passport valid at least three months on the date of arrival and a recent digital photo; the system rejects pictures with closed eyes or a covered face. A1 and A2 applicants add proof of accommodation, either a hotel booking or a host who registers the stay through the Host Family & Friends service. A3 applicants upload their qualifying visa or residence card, A2 applicants their GCC residence permit.

How the application works

You register on Hayya, choose the category the platform proposes for your nationality and residence, upload documents and submit. When the permit is approved you are notified, pay the fee and receive the permit as a PDF or in the app. At Hamad International Airport e-gates can be used with a Hayya permit.

  1. Confirm on the Visit Qatar checker that your passport needs a permit and which category applies.
  2. Create an account on the Hayya website or app and start an e-visa application.
  3. Enter passport data and upload the passport copy and your photo.
  4. Add accommodation: a hotel booking or a host who registers you on Hayya.
  5. Submit and wait for the approval notification by e-mail or in the app.
  6. Pay the QAR 100 fee after approval and download the permit.
  7. Travel with the permit, insurance and return ticket; use the e-gates at Hamad International Airport.

Corrections and refusals

If an application contains data errors, Hayya allows it to be corrected and resubmitted a limited number of times. Fees are not refunded once paid, so check passport details and the photo before submitting. Rules are issued by the Ministry of Interior and can change without notice.

Frequently asked questions

Do visa-exempt travellers need a Hayya e-visa?

Not for a normal visit. Hayya is aimed at nationalities that need an entry permit; visa-free travellers only use it if they drive in through Abu Samra and choose to pre-register.

When is the QAR 100 fee paid?

Only after the application has been approved. It is not refunded.

Can I enter Qatar more than once with one Hayya permit?

No. Hayya visit permits are single entry and can be used once.

Can a friend in Qatar host me instead of a hotel?

Yes. A resident host can register your stay through the Host Family & Friends service on Hayya, which replaces a hotel booking.

Which category applies if I live in Dubai?

Residents of a GCC state apply for A2, provided their residence is valid for at least six more months from arrival in Qatar.
