Oman investor visa for company owners and partners

Investor Visa (1 or 2 years, for investors in an Omani company)

In short

Foreigners who invest in an Omani company can live in Oman on the standard Investor Visa, issued by ROP for one or two years for OMR 50. The key document is a Ministry of Labour labour permit carrying an investor stamp, and the investor's spouse and children can follow on a relative joining visa. Larger investments qualify for the separate 5- or 10-year Golden Residency.

Who the visa is for

ROP describes the Investor Visa as a residence visa granted to a foreigner who wishes to invest in Oman, on the basis of a certificate from the competent authority. In its eVisa conditions, the applicant must be an investor in an Omani company and at least 21 years old.

The first step is usually a company registration on the Oman Business Platform run by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion; the Ministry of Labour's commercial work permit service then lets employers request permits for investors as well as workers.

Documents

ROP asks for the investor's photo and passport copy and the original labour permit issued by the Ministry of Labour with an investor stamp. Certain nationalities also need a medical fitness certificate endorsed by the Omani Ministry of Health.

The applicant must not have been refused an Omani visa before and must not hold another current Omani visa.

Fees and duration

ROP lists OMR 50 for both the one-year and the two-year Investor Visa. Residence can be renewed for a period similar to the original visa. Investors in an economic free zone who work with a local sponsor have subtypes with no ROP fee because payment is made at the Ministry of Labour.

After entry, the residence card costs OMR 6 for one year or OMR 11 for two years. Late renewal is fined OMR 20 per month.

Family members

The investor's spouse and first-degree relatives can be sponsored on the Relative Joining Visa. Unlike employees, investors can also bring unmarried sons and daughters over 21.

Family members follow the investor's residence and need their own residence cards within 30 days of arrival.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Investor Visa and Golden Residency?

The standard Investor Visa lasts one or two years and is tied to an investor-stamped labour permit. Golden Residency, run by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, gives five or ten years for qualifying investments.

Is there a minimum investment for the standard Investor Visa?

ROP does not publish a minimum amount for this visa; it relies on the investor-stamped labour permit and company registration.

Can my adult unmarried son join me?

Yes. ROP allows unmarried sons and daughters over 21 to join a parent who is an investor.

How old must I be?

At least 21 at the time of application, according to ROP.
