Kuwait student visa: entry permit for study
Student visa (entry permit for study) and student residency
In short
International students enter Kuwait on the entry permit for study, one of the Ministry of Interior's residency entry permits. It is requested in Kuwait on the student's behalf, costs KWD 3, is valid 90 days from issue and is converted into student residency within 60 days of arrival. Students need a passport valid for 18 months and a criminal record certificate presented at a Kuwaiti mission.

Who needs the entry permit for study
Any foreigner who will study in Kuwait for longer than a visit needs this permit rather than a tourist visa. The ministry lists it among residency entry permits, alongside work and dependent permits, which means it leads to a residence permit for the duration of the studies. A student admitted to a course in Kuwait cannot rely on the tourist visa for this purpose, since visit visa holders must leave when the visit ends.
The ministry does not publish on its visa pages who may act as sponsor for the student. In practice the request is made in Kuwait, so admitted students should ask their institution in Kuwait how it files the permit.
Requirements
The student's passport must be valid for at least one year and six months, and its details must match the entry permit exactly. Before travel the student presents a criminal record certificate no older than 90 days at the Kuwaiti embassy or consulate in their country; a student who has lived for at least two years in another country presents that country's certificate instead.
Fees and deadlines
The student entry permit costs KWD 3. It is valid for 90 days from issue, so the student must arrive within that window. After entry, regular residency must be completed within 60 days at the General Directorate of Residency Affairs; delays are fined at KWD 2 per day in the first month and KWD 4 per day thereafter.
After arrival
Completing residency is the student's responsibility together with the sponsor. The ministry's residency e-services let residents check whether their medical examination result is ready, pay fees and fines, and follow residency transactions. If the passport is renewed during studies, the passport data must be transferred, a service the ministry also provides.
