Jordan residence permit under a bank deposit: conditions and application
Annual residence under a bank deposit (residence without work)
In short
Foreigners who want to live in Jordan on their own sponsorship can apply online for an annual residence for themselves and their family by showing a certificate from a bank in Jordan for at least JOD 20,000, or JOD 10,000 together with the title deed of an apartment in their name. A five-year residence is possible with approval of the Residence and Borders Department.

Who this residence is for
The MOI service is for foreigners who want to reside in Jordan without a job or a sponsor, for example people living on savings or pensions. The applicant applies for themselves and the members of their family on their personal sponsorship. The ministry's English e-services page calls it "workless residency with bank deposit", which makes clear that it is not a work authorisation.
The applicant, as sponsor, must also appear as one of the persons in the application.
Documents and the five-year option
The application includes copies of the passports of all persons to be covered, with their last entry stamp, the bank certificate (and title deed where relevant), and, for renewals, the previous residence permits. A residence for five years is possible: in that case you add a copy of the letter from the Residence and Borders Department approving the five-year period. The MOI e-services also list an "annual residence for five years" service.

The deposit requirement
You attach a bank certificate from a bank inside Jordan showing an account of at least JOD 20,000. Alternatively, a certificate of JOD 10,000 is accepted together with the registration deed of an apartment in the applicant's name. Funds held abroad do not meet the condition as published.
Validity, work and registration
An approved residence must be used within six months of the approval date. Holders who later want to work need a Ministry of Labour work permit, which requires prior MOI approval of the application; work permit fees are then charged from that approval. Like all foreigners, residents must keep their place of residence registered with the Public Security Directorate.
Family members and parents
Family members are covered on the applicant's personal sponsorship in the same application. The MOI also states that a foreigner holding an annual residence in Jordan can sponsor one or both parents for residence, provided a proof of support issued by a Sharia court and evidence of the sponsor's income are attached.
How to apply, step by step
- Open a bank account in Jordan and deposit at least JOD 20,000, or JOD 10,000 if you own an apartment registered in your name.
- Obtain the bank certificate and, if relevant, the title deed.
- Register on MOI e-services and select the annual residence under a bank deposit.
- Add yourself and your family members and upload passports with entry stamps.
- For five years, obtain and upload the Residence and Borders Department approval letter.
- Use the approval within six months and renew with the previous permit before it expires.
Frequently asked questions
Can the deposit be held in a foreign bank?
No. The MOI condition is a bank certificate from inside Jordan for an account of at least JOD 20,000, or JOD 10,000 with an apartment deed.
Can I work with this residence?
Not under the residence itself. A work permit requires a separate application approved by the MOI and issued by the Ministry of Labour.
Can my parents join me?
The MOI says parents can be granted residence on the sponsorship of a son or daughter with an annual residence in Jordan, with a Sharia court proof of support and the sponsor's income.
