Visa waiver and Social Visit Visa
In short
Brunei lets nationals of Category D countries visit without a visa for 90, 30 or 14 days depending on the group. Nationals of Categories A and B, and visitors who want to stay longer than their waiver, apply for a social visit visa; the MFA states a fee of BND 20 and processing of three working days at Brunei missions.

Visa-free groups
The MFA lists three visa waiver groups. D1 (90 days) covers most EU and EEA countries, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada. D2 (30 days) covers countries with visa waiver arrangements such as Türkiye, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Oman, Singapore, Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates. D3 (14 days) covers a further group of countries and territories; for some countries in each group only certain passport types are covered.
What the waiver covers
The waiver is for social visits and tourism. The MFA notes that a visa application is required for stays beyond the waiver period and for business and professional visits, even for visa-waiver nationals. D2 nationals do not need a transit visa. Visitors cannot work on a visa waiver or a social visit visa; foreigners working in Brunei must hold a valid visa and work pass.
Social visit visa at a Brunei mission
For visa-required (Category B) nationals, the MFA asks for a visa application form, a copy of a passport valid for at least six months, two recent colour passport photos, a copy of a confirmed return flight ticket, proof of accommodation (hotel reservation or address of stay) and the applicant's contact details. Where a Brunei mission exists, the documents are submitted in person; elsewhere they can be sent by secure courier with a prepaid self-addressed return envelope. Applicants may be interviewed by telephone or in person.

JIPK's checklist asks for a letter from the guarantor, the visa form and Form 8, a copy of the applicant's passport valid for six months, two photos and the guarantor's smart identity card; foreign guarantors add their passport and a work pass valid for at least six more months, Labour Department licences, salary slip and, if relevant, employer consent.
