What the tourist visa covers
Under the Visa Policy 2026 the T category is for recreation and tourism, casual visits to friends or relatives, and attendance at conferences, workshops, seminars and study tours. The total duration is up to three months with multiple entries; if a shorter visa is issued, it can be extended inside Bangladesh for the remaining period with a single entry. Employment is prohibited and the condition is printed on the visa.
A Bangladesh mission may also issue a T visa to a foreigner applying from a third country, other than citizens of visa-prohibited countries, if it is satisfied with the application. Nationals on the visa-on-arrival list who travel for tourism can alternatively use the 30-day visa on arrival.
Documents
The national policy asks for the completed application form, the passport with a copy of the information page, Bangladeshi accommodation addresses and a return ticket. Missions add their own checklist, typically the printed MRV form, photos to their specification, proof of fee payment, the original passport with a copy and, if you apply outside your country of nationality, your residence permit there. Hotel and flight reservations and an invitation letter, where you visit friends or attend an event, support the file.
Passports must be valid for at least six months. The policy allows the visa authority to ask for a police report when a visa is extended.

Fees and payment
Bangladesh sets visa fees by reciprocity, so the amount depends on your nationality and on whether you ask for single or multiple entry; the mission where you apply publishes it, and the visa.gov.bd fee table lists the re-entry visa. Payment is not made online: the mission tells you how to pay and which receipt to attach.
Deposited amounts are not refunded, including when a visa is refused, so check the exact amount before paying.
How the application works
Fill in the application at visa.gov.bd, choose the mission where you will apply, and print the completed form. The online form is valid for seven days after submission; after that a new form is needed. Payment is not taken online. You then hand the printed form, documents, payment proof and original passport to the consular section; the visa is stamped in the passport as a machine-readable visa.
Bangladesh missions decide each application individually after examining the documents, and the visa does not by itself guarantee entry.
- Decide between a T visa from a mission (up to three months, multiple entry) and the 30-day visa on arrival.
- Fill in the online application at visa.gov.bd, selecting the mission where you will apply, and print it within seven days.
- Pay the fee the way the mission specifies and keep the original receipt.
- Prepare photos, hotel and flight reservations and any invitation letter.
- Submit everything with your original passport to the consular section of the mission.
- Collect the passport with the visa and travel within its validity.

Extension and overstay
A T visa shorter than three months can be extended for the remaining period by the Department of Immigration and Passports. Apply at least 15 days before expiry with the form, the passport pages showing the visa and arrival stamp and, if requested, a police report. The tourist visa cannot be converted into another category inside Bangladesh.
Overstay penalties are BDT 1,000 a day for the first 15 days, BDT 2,000 a day up to 90 days and BDT 3,000 a day beyond, and payment must be made through a scheduled bank rather than in cash.
