Eligibility
Student visas are granted only for study at educational institutions approved by the Government of Bangladesh. The S category covers students pursuing an academic programme and interns completing an internship that is part of an academic degree. Research or training at a recognised institution falls under the separate R category.
The policy also allows a one-year single-entry visa for children under 18 of foreign Tabligh Jamaat activists studying at Madrasa-e-Uloom-e-Diniya, with registration at the nearest police station or Special Branch within 15 days and yearly extensions until the student turns 32.
Documents
The Visa Policy 2026 requires the completed form, a copy of the passport, proof of admission or an offer letter and a bank solvency certificate or other proof of financial solvency. Missions also ask for the letter of acceptance, a bank guarantee document and academic qualification documents. Missions add their own checklist, typically the printed MRV form, photos to their specification, proof of fee payment, the original passport with a copy and, if you apply outside your country of nationality, your residence permit there.
Intern applicants can be asked for their student identity card and a letter of acceptance from the institution or company.

Overstay fines may be waived for foreign students for up to three months; beyond that a maximum fine of BDT 3,000 may be charged, and after six months the standard rate of BDT 3,000 per day applies.

The spouse, children and adopted children of an S or R visa holder can receive an FSR visa for the same period.
