Permitted business activities

Under the Visa Policy 2026 the B category is for international business persons who come to analyse investment potential, attend board meetings, general meetings or technical meetings, recruit manpower from Bangladesh, take part in trade fairs and exhibitions and related discussions, or verify the quality of Bangladeshi products and negotiate. It is a common route for buyers in the garment and textile sector.

Taking up employment is prohibited and is printed as a condition on the visa. Anyone who will work for a Bangladeshi company or project needs an E2 or E3 visa and a work permit instead. A sponsoring organisation that lets a business visitor breach visa conditions is fined BDT 100,000 per person for the first violation and BDT 200,000 for repeat violations.

Documents

The policy requires the completed form, the passport with a copy of the information page, an invitation letter from a business registered in Bangladesh, the certificate of incorporation or trade licence of the inviting organisation, and three to six months of the applicant's bank statements as proof of financial solvency.

Missions can add requirements; some ask for a letter from your chamber of commerce and a nomination letter from your own company, besides the printed MRV form, photos, proof of fee payment and the original passport with a copy.

Required documents

Identity

  • Original passport with copy of the information page
  • Photos to the mission's specification, and residence permit copy if you live outside your country of nationality

Money

  • Bank statements for the last three to six months
  • Proof of fee payment, as required by the mission

Work

  • Invitation letter from a business registered in Bangladesh
  • Certificate of incorporation or trade licence of the inviting organisation
  • Chamber of commerce letter and nomination letter from your company, if the mission asks for them

Other

  • Printed online visa application (MRV) form

Fees

Fees follow reciprocity and depend on your nationality and the number of entries; the mission where you apply publishes them, and the visa.gov.bd fee table lists the re-entry visa. As the B visa is a multiple-entry visa of up to a year, most applicants pay the multiple-entry fee. Payment is not made online, and nothing is refunded if the visa is refused.

Extension

The B visa can be extended up to two years in total, still with 90 days per entry. The extension application to the Department of Immigration and Passports is filed at least 15 days before expiry and repeats the first-visa documents, adding the passport pages with the visa and arrival stamp, a recommendation letter from the relevant chamber of commerce or association in Bangladesh, and a police report obtained by the visa authority.

Late applications attract overstay penalties starting at BDT 1,000 per day.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Obtain an invitation and the trade licence copy from your Bangladeshi business partner.
  2. Ask whether the mission wants a nomination letter from your company or a chamber of commerce letter.
  3. Complete the online form at visa.gov.bd and print it.
  4. Pay the fee the way the mission specifies.
  5. Submit the documents and original passport at the Bangladesh mission responsible for you.
  6. Keep each stay within 90 days and request any extension 15 days before expiry.
