Argentina retirement visa: pensionado and rentista residence
Temporary residence as pensioner (pensionado) or rentista
In short
Argentina grants a one-year renewable temporary residence to pensioners who receive a regular foreign pension and to rentistas who live on income from assets abroad. In both cases the monthly amount must be at least five times the national minimum wage (Salario Mínimo, Vital y Móvil): ARS 1,956,000 based on the ARS 391,200 minimum from 1 October 2026. Applications are filed in RaDEX from inside Argentina; the DNM fee is 100 UMSM (ARS 100,000) for non-MERCOSUR nationals.

Pensioner or rentista: the difference
Pensionado (article 23 c of Law 25.871): you receive a regular and permanent pension or retirement benefit from a government, an international organisation or a private company for services provided abroad. You show a certificate from the payer confirming a monthly amount of at least five minimum wages.
Rentista (article 23 b): you support yourself with income from assets brought from abroad, such as financial instruments, real estate or company shares. Pay for personal work does not count. The income must equal at least five minimum wages a month, and you must show that the funds enter Argentina through banks or financial institutions authorised by the Central Bank (BCRA). Both categories are governed by DNM Disposition 1.732/2023 as amended by Disposition 3446/2023.
Personal documents
Both routes require a valid passport, the Argentine criminal record certificate (included in RaDEX), criminal record certificates from every country where you lived for more than one year in the last three years (for those over 16), proof of address and regular entry. Foreign documents must be apostilled or legalised, translated into Spanish by a sworn public translator in Argentina and legalised by the Translators' Association; all documents must be originals.
