Who can apply

The residence, regulated by article 24 h) of Law 25.871, Decree 616/2010 and DNM Disposition 758/2022, is for foreigners who enter Argentina to provide services remotely, using computer, telecommunication or similar means, to individuals or companies domiciled abroad. Only nationals of countries that do not require a tourist visa can apply.

Documents

You need a valid passport, the Argentine criminal record certificate from the National Recidivism Registry (if over 16), proof of address in Argentina and of regular entry. To prove digital-nomad status, submit a signed application with your personal details and the independent work you will do, a short CV showing your experience and education, and evidence of the activity (contract, company endorsement, income or fee receipts) with at least one professional reference. Foreign documents must be apostilled or legalised.

Documents in a foreign language need a Spanish translation by an Argentine national public translator (article 6 of Law 20.305) legalised by the College of Translators, and originals must be presented. Documents issued by foreign consulates inside Argentina also need legalisation by the Argentine foreign ministry, except for MERCOSUR.

Where and how to apply

The procedure is semi-in-person and is not done through RaDEX. You must be in Argentina: in the City of Buenos Aires you request an appointment by email to the DNM address given on the official page; elsewhere you go to the DNM delegation for your area. A paid preferential appointment is available, in which case you obtain the criminal record certificate yourself and bring it on the day.

The DNM states that no intermediary (gestor) is needed and that the only payments are those generated by its own system.

  1. Enter Argentina as a tourist (your nationality must be visa-exempt).
  2. Prepare the application letter, CV and evidence of your remote work, with apostilles where needed.
  3. Request an appointment: by email in Buenos Aires or at your local DNM office elsewhere.
  4. Attend in person, pay the DNM fee and receive the transitory residence.
  5. To stay another 180 days, request the extension within 10 days before expiry.

Duration and extension

The residence is granted for up to 180 days and can be extended once for an equal period. Extensions of transitory residences must be requested within the 10 days before expiry; the DNM fee for extending a special-reasons transitory residence is 40 UMSM for non-MERCOSUR nationals.
