Latvia’s embassies and consulates outside the Schengen area received 19,222 short-stay visa applications in 2025, the 25th highest number among the 28 Schengen states, and issued 16,677 visas. The refusal rate was 12.3%. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 10.9%. Applications rose by 9% compared with 2024 (17,654).

The busiest countries were Uzbekistan (5,120), Azerbaijan (2,599), Kazakhstan (2,183), Turkey (1,828) and the United Kingdom (1,419). Among the ten busiest, refusal rates ranged from 4.7% in Russia to 27.4% in the United Kingdom.
