Latvia: visa decisions in Turkey
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 1,102 | 839 | 261 | 23.7% | 47.2% |
| 2024 | 1,303 | 995 | 296 | 22.8% | 49.2% |
| 2025 | 1,828 | 1,581 | 232 | 12.8% | 44.9% |
In 2025, Latvia’s embassy and consulates in Turkey (Ankara) received 1,828 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,581. 12.8% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 22.8%: the rate fell by 10.1 points, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications rose by 40% compared with 2024 (1,303).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 14.6% of the applications lodged in Turkey that year, from 3.5% at the consulates of Portugal to 35.5% at those of Lithuania. Latvia’s consulates worldwide refused 12.3%. Latvia was the 27th most applied-for Schengen state in Turkey.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Turkey, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
