Venezuela work visa (TR-L)

Work transeúnte visa (Visa de Transeúnte Laboral, TR-L)

In short

The work transeúnte visa (TR-L) is authorised by the Ministry of Popular Power for Interior Relations, Justice and Peace after the Ministry of Popular Power for the Social Process of Labour has given its approval. The employer or the worker files the request with the labour ministry, and the applicant then presents the labour permit, an apostilled criminal record no older than three months and the consular fee to a Venezuelan embassy or consulate. Renewals are made online through SAIME with the labour authorisation.

How the TR-L is authorised

Venezuela's foreign service explains that authorising the work transeúnte visa is the competence of the Ministry of Popular Power for Interior Relations, Justice and Peace, after the prior approval of the Ministry of Popular Power for the Social Process of Labour. The hiring party or the worker must file the request with that labour ministry. The visa is for foreigners with a passport valid for more than six months who pay the consular fee.

The published list of requirements for this visa also includes being a relative of a foreigner who holds a TR-L visa, together with a copy of that relative's passport and visa, so the same page covers accompanying family members. Ask the mission which items apply to the worker and which to relatives.

Documents

The consular page asks for the completed visa application form, the original and a copy of the passport valid for at least six months, one recent colour ID-size photo taken from the front, a copy of the labour permit issued by Venezuela's Ministry of Labour, a criminal record certificate from the country of origin no older than three months, duly apostilled or legalised and translated into Spanish where applicable, and proof of payment of the consular fee. Relatives add a copy of the passport and visa of the family member who holds the TR-L visa.

Renewal at SAIME

Inside Venezuela, the Administrative Service of Identification, Migration and Foreigners (SAIME) handles renewals. Every renewal starts by creating a user and password on the SAIME website and uploading a photo of a passport valid for at least six months, the entry and exit stamps and the latest visas, plus the document specific to the category. For workers (TR-L) the specific document is the labour authorisation issued by the Ministry of Popular Power for the Social Process of Labour.

Where to apply

The labour permit is requested in Venezuela by the employer or the worker; the visa itself is then applied for at the Venezuelan embassy or consulate responsible for your place of residence. The published requirements do not state the amount of the consular fee or a processing time, so ask the mission for both.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Your employer or you file the work request with the Ministry for the Social Process of Labour.
  2. After the labour ministry approves, the interior ministry authorises the TR-L visa.
  3. Obtain an apostilled criminal record no older than three months and translate it into Spanish.
  4. Submit the form, passport, photo, labour permit copy and fee proof to the embassy.
  5. In Venezuela, renew online through SAIME with the labour authorisation.
