Uzbekistan student visa
Student entry visa
In short
Foreign students at Uzbek educational institutions receive a student entry visa of up to one year, requested by the institution or by the ministry or organisation it belongs to. There are two forms: a temporary student visa for exchange or short-term study and a permanent student visa for the period of study, issued in one-year steps. Researchers use the separate academic visa.

Two student visas
The temporary student visa is issued for up to one year to foreign students at Uzbek higher education institutions for a short period, under exchanges or other cooperation between universities. The permanent student visa is issued for up to one year at a time to foreign students enrolled at Uzbek educational institutions for their period of study. Both are issued on applications from the educational institutions, or from the ministries, departments and organisations to which those institutions belong.
Academic and teacher visas
Foreigners who want to do research, such as collecting material for a dissertation, or to give short visiting lectures receive an academic visa valid from three months to two years, on application from the Academy of Sciences, research organisations, universities, ministries or departments. Foreign teaching staff employed by schools and universities receive a teacher's visa of up to one year.

Consular fees for single-entry visas are USD 40 for up to 7 days, USD 50 up to 15 days, USD 60 up to 30 days, USD 80 up to 3 months, USD 120 up to 6 months and USD 160 up to a year, plus USD 10 for each additional entry. Multiple-entry visas cost USD 150 for up to 6 months, USD 250 for a year, USD 300 for two years and USD 350 for three. Fees to cover actual processing costs are added depending on where the visa is issued.
Confirmation and visa
Visas are issued at Uzbek diplomatic missions and consular offices abroad on the basis of a visa confirmation from the Consular and Legal Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The confirmation follows an invitation-application from a legal entity or individual registered in Uzbekistan; the Ministry considers such applications within 4 working days.
At the mission the applicant submits a passport valid at least three months longer than the visa, two completed application forms and two 35 x 45 mm colour photos. Nationals of countries without an Uzbek mission, and stateless persons, can collect a visa on arrival at the Ministry's visa service at Tashkent International Airport if the inviting party has obtained the confirmation in advance.

Each academic year
Because the permanent student visa is issued for up to one year, students on multi-year programmes need a new visa for each year, requested again by their institution. Students should make sure the institution files in time so the visa does not expire; if it does, an exit visa of up to one month can be issued to leave Uzbekistan.
