How visas for Uzbekistan work

Foreigners may enter and transit Uzbekistan only with an entry visa, unless a bilateral treaty or a decree of the President establishes a visa-free regime. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes the list: citizens of several CIS neighbours enjoy unlimited visa-free stays, Kyrgyz citizens 60 days, Tajik citizens 30 days, and nationals of 78 further countries, including the EU states, the United Kingdom, the United States and Japan, up to 30 days. Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman have 10 days. The 30- and 60-day periods run from the border crossing, after which the visitor must leave or hold a visa.

Visas are issued at Uzbek embassies and consulates on the basis of a visa confirmation from the Ministry's Consular and Legal Department, which in turn rests on an invitation from a company or person registered in Uzbekistan. Many nationalities can instead obtain an electronic visa at e-visa.gov.uz, for USD 20 for a single entry.

The non-electronic visa catalogue covers business visas of up to one year, work visas based on authorisation from the Agency for Foreign Labour Migration, visitor visas for guests of Uzbek citizens, student, teacher and academic visas, medical visas of up to three months and a multiple-entry investment visa of up to three years for investors meeting a minimum investment threshold.
