Who can be transferred
The permit is for citizens of non-EU countries employed by a company outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who will work in Sweden as a manager, specialist or trainee at a Swedish part of the same group for more than 90 days. You must have the qualifications and experience needed, have been employed in the group without interruption for at least three months before the transfer, and keep your employment so you can return to your original job. Trainees need a traineeship agreement and a degree.
Pay and insurance
Pay and conditions must be at least as good as those of posted workers in Sweden, and the salary at least on the level of Swedish collective agreements or what is customary; from 1 June 2026 a minimum salary rule also applies to ICT compensation. The employer must have health, life, industrial injury and occupational pension insurance for you. For stays under one year you need comprehensive health insurance; for longer stays you register in the population register.
How to apply
The first application must be made from outside Sweden and granted before you enter the EU. Use the e-service (age 18+, email, Visa or Mastercard) and pay SEK 2,000, or file on paper at a Swedish embassy or consulate-general. The employment contract and any traineeship agreement must name the parties, dates, place of work, duties, pay and job title. You then give fingerprints at the mission.
- Confirm that you have worked in the group for at least three months and that the Swedish role is manager, specialist or trainee.
- Prepare the contract and assignment details with the employer, including pay and insurances.
- Apply online and pay SEK 2,000, or on paper at a Swedish embassy or consulate-general.
- Give fingerprints and show your passport at a Swedish embassy or consulate-general.
- Travel after approval and register with Skatteverket if staying a year or more.
Family and the end of the transfer
Spouses, registered or cohabiting partners and children under 18 can apply with you; you must show income covering housing and living costs for the whole family, and from 1 October 2026 family members staying a year or less need comprehensive health insurance. Adults may work. Once the three-year (or one-year) maximum is reached you must leave the EU/EEA and apply for a new ICT permit from outside.
Mobility within the EU
Holders of an ICT permit from another EU country can work in Sweden for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a Swedish permit. For longer periods they apply for an ICT permit for long-term mobility, which can be done from inside Sweden, and may keep working while waiting if their current permit is valid.
