Sectors and conditions
Seasonal permits cover work that depends on the time of year in agriculture, horticulture, hotels and restaurants, golf and ski resorts, tourism and amusement or theme parks. Since 1 June 2026 forest berry pickers can no longer get an ordinary work permit, but those employed by an employer established in Sweden can use the seasonal permit. You must live in and be in a non-EU country when you apply and intend to leave Sweden when the permit ends. Earlier breaches of seasonal permit rules, by you or the employer, can lead to refusal.
Pay, housing and insurance
From 1 June 2026 seasonal pay must be at least the full-time minimum under the collective agreement or industry practice, even for part-time work. Housing must have heating, hot and cold water, sewerage, a toilet, washbasin and shower, electricity, a stove, sink, fridge, storage and access to laundry, without safety or sanitary defects. You cannot lodge in someone else’s home. If the employer rents you housing, the rent must be reasonable, set out in writing and not deducted from pay without your prior written consent. Comprehensive health insurance for the whole stay is required.
Application steps
The employer starts the application online with your name, date of birth, citizenship and email; you complete your part through the emailed link, upload the documents and pay SEK 2,000 by card. You choose the Swedish embassy or consulate-general for the passport check, where a paper application can also be filed. Workers who return to the same employer add payslips from the previous season.

During the season
Report any change of address to Migrationsverket; not doing so can lead to refusal, revocation of the permit, a fine or in serious cases up to six months in prison. To change employer, the new employer must offer seasonal work and have advertised it; you may keep working while the new application is processed if you applied before the current permit expires.
