Minimum criteria

TalentCorp lists these minimum criteria: at least three consecutive years working in Malaysia on an Employment Pass, with more than three months left on that pass when applying; a basic monthly salary of RM15,000, which must match a declared yearly basic salary of at least RM180,000; a Malaysian income tax file number and tax paid for at least the two most recent years; a degree, diploma or recognised professional certificate; and at least five years of total work experience.

Meeting the criteria does not guarantee approval; the RP-T panel decides. Since 1 June 2023 rejected new applications cannot be appealed, and applicants may reapply after a one-year cooling-off period.

Fees

Per applicant, TalentCorp charges an application fee of RM540 and a processing fee of RM5,400 for the principal or spouse (RM4,860 for other dependants). The Immigration Department adds RM500 and a multiple entry visa fee of RM0 to 50 depending on nationality. Dependants added after approval follow a separate fee schedule.

Application and endorsement

Applicants register on the RP-T portal, activate the account through the e-mail link, complete the form and upload documents. Stage 1 approval takes about 21 working days after a complete submission, plus about 10 working days for the status notification. Stage 2 endorsement takes about seven working days, then a further seven for printing and delivery.

  1. Check that you have three consecutive years on an Employment Pass and meet the salary, tax and experience criteria.
  2. Register on the RP-T portal yourself and activate the account.
  3. Complete the form, upload documents and pay the application fee.
  4. Wait for the panel decision, then pay the processing and immigration fees.
  5. Complete the endorsement and receive the ePASS.

Renewal and Post-10-Years

Renewals and Post-10-Years applications should be filed at least six months before the pass expires, while the holder is employed in Malaysia. For Post-10-Years applications filed from 1 August 2025, proof of income tax payment for the five most recent years is required instead of two.

Family members

Spouses and children under 18 are eligible as RP-T dependants, and a spouse holding an RP-T dependant pass may work in Malaysia. Parents and parents-in-law are not RP-T dependants but may be given a one-year renewable social visit pass, up to five years. Unmarried children aged 18 to 24 who still depend on the principal for support and not studying or working in Malaysia may also receive a social visit pass.
