Malaysia eVISA: eligibility, fees and the official MyVISA portal

eVISA (Single Entry Visa via MyVISA)

In short

The eVISA is the online single-entry visa for nationalities on Malaysia's visa-required list. It is applied for from outside Malaysia on MyVISA, the only portal the Immigration Department recognises, and normally allows one entry within three months of issue. Nationals not on the list do not need it for tourism or business visits.

Who needs an eVISA

Only nationals of countries on the Immigration Department's visa-required list need a visa for a social visit. Students approved through EMGS who come from these countries also obtain their single entry visa through the eVISA portal after the eVAL is issued.

Single entry and multiple entry eVISA

Since August 2025 the eVISA has been open to all foreign citizens who need a visa for Malaysia and whose country has diplomatic relations with Malaysia; registration is not possible from Israel or North Korea. The single entry visa is for nationalities that need a visa for every visit.

The Multiple Entry Visa (MEV), which allows stays of up to 30 days per entry, has changed: from 1 September 2026 the Immigration Department no longer offers it to all nationalities. It is limited to 30 eligible nationalities and to four purposes: fly-and-cruise trips, business, medical treatment and wedding tourism. Other travellers apply for a single entry visa for each trip.

Documents and photo rules

Applicants upload a passport valid for more than six months, a recent photo, a confirmed return or onward booking, proof of funds and, where relevant, a hotel booking or invitation letter. Social-visit applicants should follow the Malaysia visa photo specifications carefully, because a photo that does not match them can delay the decision.

Since 1 July 2026 every photo uploaded for an eVISA in the Visa with Reference (VDR) category, the visa issued after an employment, professional-visit or student approval, is checked automatically against the Malaysia visa photo specifications. Only a plain white or blue background is accepted, without gradients, patterns, objects, shadows or reflections, and a photo that fails the check is referred to the VDR issuing office.

Official portal and warnings

The Immigration Department names MyVISA as the only official eVISA website and has publicly warned that other sites, including keymalaysia.com, are not official. Visa-required travellers who arrive without a visa can be refused and recorded as "Not to Land".

  1. Confirm your nationality is on the visa-required list.
  2. Register on MyVISA from outside Malaysia and fill in the form.
  3. Upload the documents and a compliant photo, then pay online.
  4. Print the approved eVISA note sent by e-mail.
  5. File the MDAC within three days before arrival and travel within the visa validity.

Forms

Processing and validity

The government portal gives two working days for processing. A single entry visa is normally valid for one entry within three months from the date of issue, and the MDAC must still be filed before arrival.

The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card can be completed on the MDAC website and, since January 2026, directly in the MyNIISe app. Visa-required travellers should keep the printed eVISA note with them, as it is checked at the immigration counter on arrival.
