Iran business visa (A entry visa): invitation, application and interview
Entry visa (A) for business, official and invited visits
In short
Iran's A visa, called the entry visa, covers business visits on the invitation of an Iranian ministry, government body or private or public company, for example to negotiate, sign contracts or install machinery that has been bought. The host in Iran arranges the approval, and you file the application on the MFA e-visa portal and collect the visa at a mission.

Who the entry visa is for
The MFA describes the A visa as the visa for foreigners invited by ministries, government organisations or private and public sector bodies for purposes such as negotiations, signing contracts or setting up purchased machinery. It lists the following applicants: faculty members and researchers on educational and cultural programmes, crews of carriers transporting goods and passengers, officials, political and economic delegations, art and sports teams, staff of international organisations and specialists, internationally recognised merchants and experts, United Nations employees, and relatives of foreigners who live in Iran.
The online form also offers a separate "Trading" option. Paid employment is not covered: a foreign worker needs the F temporary work visa, and reporters need the H media visa.
Invitation and authorization code
The core document is a valid invitation from the Iranian side. In practice the host company or body obtains the approval in Iran and passes on an authorization (reference) code, which you enter in your application; the Iranian embassy in London, for example, tells business applicants that they get this code through their host company. Besides that, you need the online application and must be ready for an interview at the consulate.

Fees
There is no single published business-visa fee; each mission charges by nationality. Ask the mission you select in the form. Some missions handle ordinary applications through registered agencies but accept applicants holding an MFA approval directly.
Applying online and collecting the visa
File the application on the e-visa portal in English letters, upload a photo and passport scan, and choose the mission where you will collect the visa. Verify your email within three days. The MFA works with about 10 business days for the review; you are informed of each status change by email. Some missions then require you to submit the passport in person: London asks for the completed form, two recent photos and a passport valid for at least six months once the confirmation email has arrived.
- Get the prerequisite for this visa ready: ask your Iranian host to obtain the approval and send you the authorization code.
- Open the online non-immigrant visa application on the MFA e-visa portal, choose the visa type, your nationality and the mission where you will collect the visa.
- Fill in every field in English letters only, upload the photo and passport scan, then review the answers before submitting.
- Enter the verification code sent to your email within 3 days, then print the confirmation page and note the tracking code.
- Wait for the decision (the portal works with about 10 business days) and attend an interview if the mission asks for one.
- Collect the visa at the selected mission, bringing the passport and anything else the mission requests.
Forms
- Online Non-immigrant Visa Application (MFA e-visa) · Choose the visa type, nationality, passport type and the mission or airport where the visa will be issued.
- Check application status (MFA e-visa) · Follow the application and download the grant notice with your tracking code.
Common reasons for delays
The MFA lists frequent errors: the wrong visa type, the wrong nationality, an incomplete home address, a photo that does not meet the standard and the wrong collecting mission. A passport with less than six months of validity cannot be used at all, and dual nationals must apply with the passport they will travel on.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an invitation for an Iranian business visa?
Yes. The A entry visa is based on a valid invitation from an Iranian ministry, organisation or company, which usually provides an authorization code for your application.
Can I attend meetings on the visa waiver?
Iran's waivers are for tourism; the Iranian missions in Türkiye, for example, tell Turkish waiver holders travelling for business to apply on the e-visa portal. Check the purpose rules of your own waiver with an Iranian mission.
May I work in Iran on the entry visa?
No. Employment requires the F temporary work visa, based on a labour certificate that an Iranian employer obtains from the labour ministry.
How long does the business visa take?
Around 10 business days after the email verification, according to the portal, unless an interview is scheduled.
