Ghana express and priority visa services
Official priority services: eVisa Priority and Express, embassy express visas, GIS premium express fees
In short
Ghana offers several official ways to speed up a visa. The eVisa portal sells Priority processing within 48 hours for USD 338 and Express within five hours for USD 442, against USD 260 for 96 hours. Some Ghana missions abroad offer express processing for a higher fee. GIS's L.I. 2512 fee schedule also lists premium express fees for residence and work permits and visas on arrival.

Express visas at Ghana's missions
Some Ghana missions abroad offer express processing of the visas they issue for a higher fee; the fee, timing and payment method are set by each mission, so check the page of the mission responsible for you. Unlike the eVisa, this route can produce a multiple-entry visa quickly.
GIS premium express fees for permits
The L.I. 2512 fee schedule that GIS published in July 2026 contains a heading Premium Express Service Digital Portal with fees of USD 200 for a residence permit, USD 200 for a work permit and USD 300 for a visa on arrival. GIS has not published turnaround times or a separate procedure for these services on its website, so ask GIS headquarters about the timeline when you file. For comparison, the 2022 client service charter gives two weeks for work permits and four weeks for student and dependant permits under standard processing, and the GIS FAQ says an emergency entry visa is issued within 48 hours.
- For an eVisa, choose Priority or Express when you apply and upload complete documents to avoid an information request.
- At a Ghana mission, ask whether it offers express processing and pay the express fee it sets.
- For permits in Ghana, ask GIS headquarters about the premium express service and its timeline when filing.
eVisa Priority and Express
When you apply for a Ghana eVisa you choose a service tier. Standard processing costs USD 260 and is handled within 96 hours, Priority costs USD 338 and is handled within 48 hours, and Express costs USD 442 and is handled within five hours. The documents are the same for every tier and the fee does not depend on nationality. Processing pauses while a request for information is open, and you have three days to answer, so a missing document can cancel out the speed you paid for. Fees are generally not refunded, and a faster tier does not change the outcome: the same assessment applies and approval does not guarantee entry.
Choosing the fastest route
For a traveller who must leave within days, the eVisa Express tier (USD 442, five hours) is the quickest official option, provided the eligibility checker returns eVisa Required and all documents, including proof of accommodation for the whole stay and a three-month bank statement for tourists, are ready before you start. If you need several entries, a mission's express service, where offered, is the alternative. A visa on arrival is meant for urgent cases with a host in Ghana and still requires GIS approval before boarding. Whatever route you choose, the yellow fever certificate is checked at the border, and the vaccine must have been given at least ten days before travel, so the injection itself can be the limiting factor.
Frequently asked questions
Does Express processing guarantee approval?
No. All tiers use the same documents and assessment; only the target time differs.
Is express available for multiple-entry visas?
Possibly, at Ghana missions that offer express processing, at a higher fee. The eVisa is single entry only.
Is the express fee refundable if processing is late?
The eVisa guide says fees are generally non-refundable except as the official terms provide for system errors or duplicate payments; each mission sets its own refund rules.
