Who can apply

The Welcome Stamp is open to anyone who meets the requirements and whose work is location-independent, whether an individual or a family. The visa is for remote work only, meaning work for companies and individuals outside Barbados. Applicants must earn an annual income of at least US$50,000 over the 12 months they intend to hold the stamp.

Holders are not liable for Barbados income tax and so are not subject to double taxation, but they pay Barbados' 17.5% VAT on products and services bought on the island.

Documents

The official Welcome Stamp page lists a passport-sized photograph of the principal applicant and all family members over 18, the passport bio-data page of the principal applicant and every family member, proof of the relationship between the principal applicant and the other family members, and evidence of the required annual income. The application is completed online.

Approval and fees

Applications are typically approved within seven business days. After approval the non-refundable fee must be paid within 28 days: US$2,000 for an individual or US$3,000 for a family bundle. The stamp is valid for one year, and holders can reapply if they wish to stay longer.

Children and school

School-aged children approved under the Welcome Stamp do not need a separate student visa: once the Immigration Department issues the family's Welcome Stamp, a copy is placed in the child's passport and the parent can begin school enrolment, either directly with a private school or through the Ministry of Education for a public school. Education is compulsory for children aged 5 to 16, and some public secondary schools have limited places.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Check that your work is location-independent and your income is US$50,000 a year.
  2. Apply online with photos, passport pages and family documents.
  3. After approval, pay US$2,000 or US$3,000 within 28 days.
  4. Travel to Barbados and enrol children in school if needed.
