Hungary’s embassies and consulates outside the Schengen area received 265,479 short-stay visa applications in 2025, the 8th highest number among the 28 Schengen states, and issued 228,385 visas. The refusal rate was 13.0%. That is barely different from 2024 (12.8%). Applications rose by 6% compared with 2024 (251,364).

The busiest countries were China (62,579), Turkey (35,605), Russia (28,540), India (16,251) and Belarus (14,342). Among the ten busiest, refusal rates ranged from 1.2% in Belarus to 35.2% in the United Arab Emirates.
