Greece: visa decisions in the United States
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 7,481 | 6,067 | 45 | 0.6% | 75.9% |
| 2024 | 7,019 | 5,884 | 62 | 0.9% | 74.6% |
| 2025 | 6,330 | 5,451 | 25 | 0.4% | 66.9% |
In 2025, Greece’s embassy and consulates in the United States (New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Houston and San Francisco) received 6,330 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 5,451. The refusal rate was 0.4%. That is barely different from 2024 (0.9%). Applications fell by 10% compared with 2024 (7,019).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 4.9% of the applications lodged in the United States that year. Greece’s consulates worldwide refused 14.5%. Greece was the 8th most applied-for Schengen state in the United States.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in the United States, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
