2024 1,7411,12659234.4% 14.9%
2025 1,9631,27865333.8% 17.8%

In 2025, France’s embassy and consulates in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) received 1,963 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,278. 33.8% of applications were refused. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 34.4%. Applications rose by 13% compared with 2024 (1,741).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 30.8% of the applications lodged in Malaysia that year, from 0.3% at the consulates of Austria to 61.5% at those of the Netherlands. France’s consulates worldwide refused 14.2%. France was the most applied-for Schengen state in Malaysia.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Malaysia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
