Belgium: visa decisions in Iran

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 2,4271,71771029.1% 31.0%
2024 2,2621,37683937.7% 26.2%
2025 2,1191,31477036.9% 44.1%

In 2025, Belgium’s embassy and consulates in Iran (Tehran) received 2,119 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,314. 36.9% of applications were refused. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 37.7%. Applications fell by 6% compared with 2024 (2,262).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 29.1% of the applications lodged in Iran that year, from 16.6% at the consulates of Romania to 46.2% at those of Austria. Belgium’s consulates worldwide refused 26.1%. Belgium was the 9th most applied-for Schengen state in Iran.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Iran, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
