2024 197,959165,56431,31415.9% 33.5%
2025 204,184172,07231,05815.3% 36.1%

In 2025, France’s embassy and consulates in India (Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata) received 204,184 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 172,072. The refusal rate was 15.3%. That is barely different from 2024 (15.9%). Applications rose by 3% compared with 2024 (197,959).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 15.8% of the applications lodged in India that year, from 7.1% at the consulates of Denmark to 46.5% at those of Slovenia. France’s consulates worldwide refused 14.2%. France was the 2nd most applied-for Schengen state in India.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in India, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
